Directions

Candied Beef Bacon Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
3. Lay out the bacon slices on the lined baking sheet.
4. On one side of each bacon slice, generously lather with maple syrup, ensuring the bacon slices have a nice layer of maple syrup. Using a brush at this step will help, but it's not needed.
5. Sprinkle a pinch of chili powder evenly over the maple syrup-coated side of the bacon.
6. Now, generously coat each slice with brown sugar. Pat it down to ensure it sticks.
7. Flip the bacon slices over to the other side.
8. Repeat the process: lather with maple syrup, sprinkle with chili powder, and coat with brown sugar. Pat down to adhere.
9. Carefully lift up the parchment paper with the bacon off the baking sheet and line the baking sheet with a new piece of parchment paper or foil.
10. Place a baking rack on top of the newly lined baking sheet.
11. Transfer the prepared bacon slices to the baking rack, laying them down next to each other.
12. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes.
13. After the first 12 minutes, carefully flip each bacon slice over.
14. Bake for an additional 12 minutes or until the bacon is caramelized and crispy.
15. Once done, remove the candied bacon from the oven.
16. Allow the candied bacon to rest for about 20 minutes. This resting time helps the candy coating to set and gives you that perfect balance of sweet and savory.
17. Stack half of the bacon slices on top of each other and cut the strips into 1⁄4 inch wide pieces. Set them in a bowl and put them aside until near the end of making the cabbage.
