Directions

Instructions for Corn Dogs
1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
2. In another large bowl add the buttermilk, egg, olive oil and honey and whisk until combined.
3. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, and whisk until well combined like pancake batter.
4. Insert the bamboo sticks into each hot link. (If they are too long, I would recommend cutting them to the correct length you desire and make sure your hot links are completely dry)
5. In your large pot, heat oil to 375 degrees.
6. Using a tall glass with a large hole funnel, dip each hot link into the batter mixture, making sure it is completely coated with no holes showing.
7. Immediately but carefully place the battered hot links in the hot oil, and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side turning them in the oil as needed.
8. Use tongs to remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Hot Link Corndog Jalapeno Cream Cheese Dip
1. 8 Oz of Cream Cheese (make sure its soft enough to stir prior to making this dip)
2. 1 Jalapeno (seeds out & finely minced)
3. 1 Tbsp of Cilantro (finely chopped)
4. ¼ Tsp of Salt
5. ¼ Tsp Cracked Black Pepper
6. ¼ Tsp of Onion Powder
7. (Mix everything together)
Pro Tips
1. Buy a thermometer and make sure the oil is at 375 degrees before frying.
2. Make sure your hot links or any beef or pork you use are completely dried off with paper towels before dipping in the batter.
3. Buy a tall glass (a glass tall enough to cover the entire hot link and a little more) and a large hole funnel.
4. When dipping the hot links into the batter, make sure they are fully covered and no big open gaps are left exposing the hot link before frying.
5. When frying the hot link corn dogs, make sure you swirl the top of them in the hot oil before fully placing them in.
6. After dipping them into the batter, fry immediately.
7. Use tongs to turn or roll the corn dogs when they are frying as necessary.
8. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
9. These are all techniques to cooking a decent looking corn dog. You may not nail it on your first attempt, but it just takes practice.
